The Recovery Process

It appears that ‘the unconscious part’ of consciousness knows truth exists. What stands between truth and how we fill time dismissing truth as false, is amnesia, which serves to keep truth out of sight so we can fill time defending our rendition of truth. Anxiety is a clue that we can obscure truth, but we can’t cancel it. Truth, ironically, acts like our nemesis because it always threatens to remind us just how full of it we are. It can be relegated to the back of the mind, but it reminds us that our rendition of reality is amusingly bogus. Humor reflects where you are with this apparent paradox. Anger reflects how much you hate the fact truth won’t go away. Time displays that we are engaged in a contest between truth and the sum of what we do to prove truth is false. Irony includes the fact truth is responsible for how we fill time ‘waging war with truth,’ which captures the epitome of humor. How can we hope to prove truth is false if truth provides the setting for this parody?

These were some of the thoughts I pondered after reading Wei Wu Wei’s eight wonderful books, starting with “Open secret.” His synthesis of all Buddhist philosophy punched a gaping hole in amnesia, illuminating the outline of the architecture of reality. What became clear is that there is something we can refer to as “The Big Picture,” and that it warehouses what truth is all about, including the game truth features us playing with it. Time features us trying to prove truth is false, and truth is the author of this game. I named this game TAG, an acronym that stands for “The Anti-truth Game.”

Everyone is transparent because truth displays the level of TAG we play with truth, from low to high TAG. Duality, or the sum of what we do to defend the fiction we have no tie to truth, defines where everyone falls on the TAG scale, such that low duality manifests as comedy, and high TAG manifests as tragedy. Because low TAG individuals are less at odds with truth, they display a much higher level of positivity and humor about “life” in general. As the war on truth increases, humor is replaced by seriousness, and unity is replaced with duality, including all forms of conflict and opposition. The end product of duality is war!

Playing TAG defines how most of us fill time. We are at war with truth because we know, at some unconscious level, that truth, once revealed, can’t defend our rendition of reality. Truth reflects that reality is not what we insist it is. Amnesia obscures this fact so we can play the game of TAG with truth. TAG defines where everyone is right now with what the truth is, either one with it, or awake, or deep in trance, filling time trying to prove truth is false. Our transparency reveals the degree to which we defend the fiction duality is real in order to keep the game of TAG in play.

It took ten years to work with my own amnesia to make sense out of what passes for paradox. Truth occupies center stage because it creates the context for us to fill time ‘at war with truth,’ as if we can prove truth is false. It is no accident that TAG requires the assumption that duality is real to defend the fiction defection from truth is possible. Amnesia successfully hides the fact that 1) truth is responsible for TAG, and that 2) the option to prove truth is false, even with ‘duality,’ is zero. What makes us funny is the degree to which we fill time with duality, as if that is sufficient to prove we have no tie to what truth is. Everyone is busy pretending defection from truth is possible, and because that’s not possible, our life includes the sum of what we do to turn a parody into reality.

For me, Wei Wu Wei’s books were the books I was waiting for, suspecting someone might show up to make sense out of what passes for confusion, thanks to the power of amnesia. “The Recovery Process” features reconnecting with truth in order to identify how we create duality to defend the fiction defection from truth is possible. Truth is the sponsor for the game of TAG, which means truth provides the context which features us relying on duality to drag out the fiction we exist outside of what truth is. If defection from truth isn’t possible, then “The Defection Parody” will take us to the origin of all suffering.

In the next installment I will outline how we depend on duality to defend the fiction we are separate from one another, in order to defend the fiction we have no tie to truth, as if we can give it the slip. TAG depends on the fiction duality is real, and not the vehicle for the game truth plays with us. Waking up includes the realization, TAG persists exactly as long as we defend the lie duality is real. If it isn’t, the game of TAG can be viewed objectively as the game truth features us playing with it.
